Job Description:
Role: The person is part of a team which develops high quality and innovative prototypes for Advanced Automation Solutions to optimize the operational performance of industrial processes of ABB’s customers. In this context, the person develops, implements, tests and maintains models of industrial processes to enable their optimization. The models have to be tuned with real plant data. In the next step, the person simulates those models, identifies optimization potential, develops appropriate controllers or optimizations based on existing methods, algorithms and tools. Finally, the person applies the developed controller and optimizer on real plant and transfers the know-how to the ABB business unit. Technical Skills Application know how: In-depths understanding of industrial processes. Ability to identify optimization potential. Applying process optimization techniques, advanced process control. Domains: Electrical power generation and distribution (or) Robotics and Mechatronics (or) Electrical drives and power electronics (or) Energy Systems (or) Automation Systems and Software: IEC 61131-3, programming languages (C, C#, C++). Real time systems. Distributed control systems. Design of Control system software and of distributed control systems (hardware). Data Mining and Fault detection Multivariate Statistical Analysis : PLS, PCA etc Artificial Neural Networks, Genetic Algorithms Model-based Control/Control Theory Model building based on fundamental physical principles. Simulation and numerical techniques (mathematics). Identification, parameter estimation, stochastic methods. Optimization (LP, NLP, MINLP, etc.), Controller design (Model predictive control, advanced process control, etc. The ideal candidate shall have strong competences in any 2 of the areas listed above. Education: Minimum Masters degree, PhD is an asset. Areas of study: Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering with major in Control/Optimization/Data Mining and strong foundations in mathematics and physics Mechanical Engineering with major in Robotics/ Mechatronics/Control/Optimization/Data Mining and strong foundation in mathematics and physics Chemical Engineering with major in Simulation/Control/Optimization/Data Mining and strong foundations in mathematics and physics Electrical Engineering with major in Power generation/Distribution/Electrical Drives/ Power Electronics with strong foundation in mathematics and physics
